Veejay Florsca Spring/Summer 2010

Dizzy Miss Lizzy: Classic and Modern Play Off Each Other
Veejay Floresca’s reinvention of the basics
By LIZ ANNE BAUTISTA

Veejay Floresca truly has a bent with mixing the old and the new. Sure, a designer can never really go wrong with a classic dress or the of-the-moment jumpsuit, but Floresca does a piece in ways that just intrigue and enthrall. And, in his 10-piece capsule collection for the Philippine Fashion Week’s Grand Allure show, he did so again with fascinating results.

It was all about modernizing the basics says Floresca and using such fabrics as sequined tulle, jersey, silk and velvet in white, dove and ivory gray colors. The collection showed a come-hither wearabilty and weightlessless that evoked a kind of Francisco Costa-esque minimalism.

Classic and modern play off each other in a clean, covetable, and consistent collection, with every piece beautifully crafted as the one before it. The idea of less is more is nothing new and seeing Floresca’s work proves that even in these modern times, this age-old adage still holds true.
